Interested in going ahead with my freelance WordPress services but still have a few lingering questions or hesitations? Take a look below to see some of the most common question that people have when it comes to WordPress. If you don't see your question listed below, then speak to me and I'll do my best to answer it.
What exactly is WordPress?
WordPress is simply a CMS, a content management system. It was first introduced back in 2003 and is now estimated to be used for over 43% of all websites on the internet today. WordPress uses PHP, a server-side language, to help deliver all the HTML of the website to the user. WordPress is essentially designed to help the website owner manage the content of the website.
Can't I just use a free WordPress theme?
If you're an individual or a business that's on a budget, then choosing a free WordPress theme is going to be the best choice for you. The downsides to choosing a free theme are that there is a limited amount of customisation when it comes to layout and style; additionally, you may encounter the same free theme being used by other websites on the internet. These factors combined can leave some business owners feeling that a free theme doesn't quite represent their business fully.
WordPress.com vs WordPress.org
Ever been confused by the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org? Well, you're not the only one. Although they are part of the same entity, there are key differences between the two. WordPress.org is where you can download the files for a full WordPress website, including all the admin sections, and from there, you can create your own custom theme. You'll need to find a domain name and hosting yourself, as WordPress.org is only a place to download the necessary website files only. WordPress.com, on the other hand, is a one-stop shop. You don't need to download the files; they'll set you up with a domain name and website hosting, so you can launch a website with them. However, a crucial detail to realise is that WordPress.com is a stripped-down version of its counterpart, WordPress.org, and lacks a lot of features and control that many website developers, like myself, see as vital to a great website. Therefore, I would almost always recommend choosing WordPress.org for any business that is in any way serious about their online presence.
How much do your WordPress websites cost?
Every website will vary in price, depending on the size and complexity of the project. No two projects are exactly alike in the deliverables needed for the final result. As a guide, though, I let my clients know that for a standard business website, my prices start at £3,000. If the website is quite simple in nature, that quote will probably cover everything you need, but if extra functionality is needed and the site requires additional templates and features, then this price will increase.
I'm always happy to talk through project ideas and find out more about your specific needs. Take the next steps by getting in touch and we can set up an initial call to have a proper chat.
